Meet Rob

Yoga, Meditation & Yin Instructor

I was not a natural-born yogi. Before I found yoga I was often anxious, and I wasn't particularly focused or disciplined. While I did exercise some, I almost never stretched and didn't follow any specific plan. I was the archetypal tight skinny dude - I couldn't even straighten my legs completely! That all started to change after I took my first yoga class back in 2007.

While it didn't come easy at first, after almost a decade of practice my life has completely changed. I've learned to take care of both my body and my mind. I've gotten stronger and more flexible. I've had a chance to study with some amazing teachers.

I've made it my mission to help people improve their lives through a smart, accessible approach to yoga.

Approach & Philosophy

I teach yoga with an emphasis on simplicity, precision, and attention to the present moment. In my classes, even when you're working really hard, you'll be doing so from a place of calm awareness. I love classic styles like Ashtanga and Iyengar, but recently I've also learned a lot from gymnastics-based calisthenics and strength training. I specialize in the much slower practice of Yin Yoga, which uses long-held poses to access deeper tissues, and provides an ideal place to learn mindfulness.

Meditation

I've studied meditation for almost as long as I've studied yoga. I sit each and every day. My mindfulness teaching is primarily inspired by Theravada Buddhism and I truly believe that awakening is possible if you practice consistently over time. I offer mindfulness instruction through regular group workshops and monthly courses, as well as individual private sessions.

Experience & Training

I've had the privilege of studying with some of the truly gifted teachers, including a 200-hour training with Natasha Rizopoulos, a certification in Yin Yoga with Joshua Summers, and several years of Mysore-style Ashtanga with Kate O’Donnel. In addition, I've studied meditation with teachers including Abre Chen and Beth Resnick-Folk, as well as many long retreats with some of the nations top teachers at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA.

Outside of my work in yoga, I spend much of my time devoted to the performance and production of music; so it is perhaps with some irony that I am so drawn towards practices with a strong emphasis on silence.
